The purpose of this study was to perform the linguistic and cultural
validation of the OARS (Older Americans Resources and Services Program) who
provide the assessment of five dimensions related to the quality of life of the
olders.
Elderly persons lose some abilities concern with their physical health,
mental health, social resources, economic resources and activities of daily
living. To provide a relevant care the nurse must have available tools which
can support the assessment of status of older persons.
We assessed 302 older persons (randomised and stratified sample by age,
gender and type of institutional support), interviewed by a trained researcher,
using the Portuguese version of the OARS.
Previously we have made the translation and cultural adaptation of the
original version has part of the global psychometric study (reliability and
validity).
Resultados
We have found that the Portuguese version of the OARS (Questionário de
Avaliação Multidimensional de Idosos) seems to be an equivalent version.
Study must relevant outcome shows that we have an equivalent version of
the original instrument. Therefore, has nurses, we make available a measurement
instrument of quality for older people which can provide significant
information to focalising the nursing community interventions and improve
adequate care strategy on this population group.
